Her roots, her mother and father,who sacrificed their lives selflessly for her and for the cause.Upon her shoulders, the killing of one of her friends, it was a life of death matter. She decided. She chose life.Yesterday a friend has killed himself under the pressure of manipulation and despair.Today, another victim of manipulation dies, this time she pulled the trigger.How to deal with these contradiction, with such opposite feelings?How to tell her only friend now she has killed her beloved one?

 Every culture develops a certain kind of ritual around fear. Dauntless have developed the ritual of tattooing symbols representing relevant events in their lives , as well as any  fear to overcome.Tris finds out  that one of her deepest fears is related to the family she has left behind. Even if  her brother Caleb made up his mind before she could even know she was deciding for the Dauntless, deep in her heart, she had already abandoned them.As a way to deal with pain and guilt, she has a tattoo done on her collar bone.Three black ravens around her neck area, as if they were watching it, as if they were aware of the weakness of her small throat, which could be cut in a minute, even hurt by the ravens themselves.They symbolize, death but also living creatures. Ambiguity.They watch carefully. They live to the community they belong to.They represent her family.What Tris really fears is loneliness, living without people who truly care about you and others.

Friendship is a new issue in Tris'  life. To have friends is nothing to be frighten of.However, she feels the thrill of letting herself helpless in the hands of anybody else. Cristina, Will and Al seem to be the closest to a friend she has never allowed herself to have. Some of the people she has been in touch with when in Abnegation, were more to be acquainted to  her than real  friends. There might be something in connection with trusting another person what is not really appealing to her. She trusted her family, but she left them behind. It is time to let it flow, and trust her instincts.She has been gifted with the ability to see beyond.Will she be able to do it  right?

Tris has understood that being a Dauntless is a matter of struggling and fighting.The fighting ring might be either life or the arena where she must show every single fighting day, that she deserves to belong to the chosen faction.Maybe Beatrice dreamed of a more romantic vision of the Dauntless struggle for freedom. As somebody said before:Freedom is not free.The struggle to belong can become the struggle for survival. Her growth is more vivid when we see her in relation to the surrounding violent, cruel world of physical competition which is part of the first phase of initiation.Whether she will make it or not, is a matter of how much she will be able to adapt and evolve. An allegory of human evolution, perhaps...

Beatrice has been through so many new things, she can barely believe it is true. For quite a long time by know, she has been wondering about her future decisions. It has not been particularly easy for her to hide her feelings and stop asking  questions. Abnegation are not allowed to.She started feeling  like  she does not fit anywhere. Her actions become reckless, and daring towards society rules.  The most important action reveling her real self is to choose to be part of another faction above staying with her own family.Sacrifice. Selfishness or selflessness?She feels that living according to the Abnegation precepts betrays her own essence. She has been told she is Divergent.She has been recorded Abnegation.She chooses Dauntless.When among her new faction members, everything starts to make perfect sense: her new look, tatooing, the use of new body language, bravery acts like jumping from a moving train.Dealing with plotting and lying is an obscure side of life  she has not been in touch with and now hits her on the nose.The way she may change in the future depends only on herself, since she is a Divergent, dangerous.....for whom?
